The party was so great. Highlights of the evening - seeing my dog so happy, making smores over an open flame, Barbara's yeti cake, Sara'sTruffle, Sara's encouraging cards, Shay retelling the yeti history, Buffy vs. Edward Callen, Bob, an of course Apples to Apples. I love all my yeti friends. You are welcome over anytime. It's going to be a great NaNo.

I came across a book site that lists detailed reviews and elements about a certain type of book. It's a good site if you want to see what types of books are already out there that might be similar to a story you are writing for NaNo and what elements they include. Here is the link.

Comic Con 2009: Batman Musical and Neil Patrick Harris

It seems strange to think of a superhero musical, but apparently there was “It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman” in the 1960’s and “ Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” coming to Broadway next year. But now, according to latimes.com, there is soon to be a Batman musical.

It is reportedly titled “Mayhem of the Music Meister” and is from the producers of “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” animated series that airs on the Cartoon Network. And what’s more, upcoming Emmy host Neil Patrick Harris is said to be providing the voice of the Music Meister.

The new musical is apparently being unveiled to fans who are attending the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con that is being held from Thursday 23rd July to Sunday 26th July. The series producer James Tucker said that he thought doing the Batman musical would be a fun thing to do.

Summer Reading

I made a list of books I want to read this summer. I've been doing a good job of actually sitting down to read some of them.   So far I have read books in adult fiction, young adult fiction, and nonfiction.

For my adult fiction I read The Stolen Child by Keith Donohue.

It's about a boy who is taken and replaced by a changeling. One grows up, one doesn't. It goes back and forth between the two boys lives with elements intertwining in a Slaughterhouse Five kind of way.   The middle is slow. it picks up pace and comes to a satisfying conclusion but the children growing older in time and doing adult things but staying in children's bodies is kinda creepy. :\

My young adult fiction was The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.

His family murdered, a baby wanders into a graveyard and finds the pity of the ghosts there. They raise him as one of their own. Gaiman was inspired by The Jungle Book. It's good, it's Gaiman. :)

For my nonfiction I picked up the CD version of The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch at the library.

The author, a professor, finds out he has cancer and only months to live. The book was a supplement to the final speech he gave at the university.   It's got a few little tidbits about living life with hope when facing death but he's making plans to die. Not the best choice for light hearted summer reading. :P

The next books on my list are The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, The Selected Works of T. S. Spivet by Reif Larsen, and Assasination Vacation by Sarah Vowell.

"It's like getting hit by a bus full of cool!" I came across an article about a joke some college kids have started withamazon's Three Wolf Shirt. They started giving the shirt five star reviews with hilarious testimonies of how the shirt changed their life. You have to check this out. XD

Star Trek

The new Star Trek movie is now in theaters and it looks to be a fun movie from what I've seen. I found a quiz online and when I took it I got 60% right! I have no idea how I even did that. I was at Walmart and passed by a fruit I had never seen before. You can buy Uniq Ugli Fruit for $0.97

It's supposed to be a cross between a grapefruit and tangerine. Has anyone tried this fruit before? I'm curious.

JoCo Concert

The concert was great! There wasn't a large crowd but that's what made it fun. :) After the concert, he came out and I got his autograph.

Movies

I just watched Fireproof. It's a very good faith based movie. A church in Georgia also did two other movies - Facing the Giants and Flywheel. I haven't seen Facing the Giants yet. My parents bought all three and let me borrow Flywheel. I watched it the other day. It was the first movie the church did but it's still very good. It's about how God changes a used car salesman and turns things around for his family and business. I liked it too.

Something strange happened

I've been working on my nano story this whole month and have had the idea since the summer. All of a sudden Ebenezer Scrooge wants to be in my story. I'd like to include him but I don't know if I can do that. Scrooge has been used as a character in other stories before (like Disney's Scrooge McDuck) but I don't know if they had to ask permission or not. Does anyone know if I can use someone else's character in my story?

After working through a bunch of pointless stuff I'm going to cut I finally got back on track with the story. I made some revelations about my main character and got word count today. I pushed through my uninspired lull thanks to all the pep talks. Mission accomplished.

NaNoWriMo 2008

NaNo is off to a great start this year. I have 1,751 words so far. Yay! I'm on schedule. I finally had to just turn my inner editor off. I have two problems when it comes to writing. One is how the story is going to go. I start thinking 'well I could do this or do that' and stop myself from writing anything. The other is trying to be a great writer. I really don't know what I'm doing and I sit there trying to think of words that would sound great and can't do it and never write anything. My NaNo story has some problems. I know I'm doing a bunch of telling instead of showing but at least I'm getting something written down and can go back with a complete story worked out and do something from there. I'm a NaNo participant and I'm proud of it!
